This homemade Greek seasoning contains dried herbs used in Greek cuisine, including oregano, basil, parsley, dill, rosemary, and thyme. These herbs are combined with spices like black pepper, cinnamon, and nutmeg to create a seasoning blend that can be used in various dishes.   • Dried oregano, Greek oregano preferred
  • Dried basil
  • Granulated garlic ( or garlic powder)
  • Dried parsley

  • Black pepper

Greek Oregano vs Italian Oregano

Greek oregano is native to Greece and Turkey. The earthy flavor of this herb is considered to be more intense than Italian oregano, which is known for its milder, minty taste. Both types of oregano are great for this seasoning recipe; however, for an authentic Mediterranean flavor, we recommend using Greek oregano. Find it sold online, in Mediterranean shops, or some grocery stores.

Note on salt

This Greek seasoning blend contains no salt, which will afford you the chance to salt your food according to preference. We do recommend 1 teaspoon kosher salt (or 1/2 teaspoon table salt) per pound of meat. Use 1 tablespoon of Greek seasoning per pound of meat.

How to make Greek seasoning

  • Combine all ingredients in a small bowl and use right away on chicken, turkey, pork, lamb, and other meats and veggies.
  • For a more refined seasoning rub, process ingredients in a spice grinder (or use a mortar and pestle) until it reaches desired consistency.
  • Store Greek seasoning mix in an airtight container in the pantry for up to 1 year.
  • Discard any leftover seasoning that has come into contact with raw meat.
