In my previous blog “Celebrate Oktoberfest in Style: Introducing an Incredible (and Portable) German Grill,” I acquainted Planet Barbecue with the Petromax Atago multifunctional grill. Today, I want to introduce you to Petromax’s Griddle and Fire Bowl.

Petromax’s Griddle and Fire Bowl

Petromax is a German company known for self-sufficient adventures in nature. Since 1910, Petromax has been passionate about bringing quality items to the market for outdoor living, outdoor cooking, bushcraft, and lighting. The Petromax product range combines tradition with innovation in a unique way and is characterized by the highest possible level of quality, durability, and well-thought-out details.

Petromax’s Griddle and Fire Bowl is an all-in-one product. It is made in Germany from sturdy rust resistant steel. The griddle surface is naturally non-stick due to the patina that develops during the seasoning process. The griddle and fire bowl are compact and can be easily packed into a sturdy transport case. The transport case is robust and tear-proof and made from high- quality ripstop fabrics.

The portability of the griddle and fire bowl allow you to cook and stay warm while on any outdoor adventure without a fixed fireplace.

The steel griddle can be used as a fire bowl to build a campfire in a compact space. It can also be used to cook on like a plancha. The griddle can be placed directly on a campfire or you can connect the legs to set it above an open fire. The legs also allow you to stack two griddles on top of one another and use the bottom griddle to hold your fire and cook on the top griddle.

Once the griddle is seasoned you are ready to start cooking meat, fish, veggies, scrambled eggs, or stir-fry. You can position your food in the center of the griddle for more heat and cooking power or along the outside for less heat.

I’m going to share how I used Petromax’s Griddle and Fire Bowl to make sliders. I built a wood fire on the bottom griddle. I knew the griddle was ready to cook on when a few drops of water sprinkled on its surface quickly evaporated.

Smoky Bacon Burger Sliders and S’Mores

I started by cooking a few strips of bacon on the griddle. Once the bacon started to render some fat, I added sliced onion to the griddle. I removed the cooked bacon and let it drain on a paper towel. Next, I grilled my sliders buns in the remaining bacon fat and set them aside.

I made slider burgers with 70/30 ground beef. I prefer the higher fat content when making burgers. Once the burgers were formed, I seasoned them generously with sea salt and freshly ground black pepper. The sliders cooked for five minutes on each side. I topped the sliders with smoked Gouda cheese. Once the cheese started to melt, I removed the sliders. I topped each slider with the onions, one of my homemade bread and butter pickles, and bacon. For the final touch, some of the sliders were topped with Dijon mustard and the others with ketchup.

The high heat of the griddle created a great sear on the sliders while the inside remained juicy. The sliders had a smoky aroma from the charcoal fire and the bacon. The crispy bacon and the crunch of the pickle balanced the juicy burger. I enjoyed how the pickle cut the richness of the burger and the bacon. The onions cooked in the bacon fat were sweet and delicious and paired well with the Dijon mustard.

The open flame of Petromax Griddle and Fire Bowl reminded me of camping and roasting marshmallows as a kid. So, I figured I should make a dessert with the griddle and fire bowl. Steven’s Salt Slab Brownie S’mores was the inspiration for my dessert. I started by warming brownies topped with chocolate and mint leaves on the griddle. While the brownies warmed, I used long wooden skewers to roast marshmallows over the open fire. Once the marshmallows were toasted (or completely burnt if that’s how you like your marshmallows), I placed two on top of each brownie. The campfire brownie s’mores were sweet, smoky, gooey, and delicious.
The Petromax Griddle and Fire Bowl is ideal for your next camping or outdoor adventure since you can make breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert, and it can be used for a campfire at the end of the day.
