Popeyes describes its Signature Hot sauce as “”signature Cajun hot sauce with just a touch of southern sweetness.” The sauce had the appearance of a slurry–it was mostly seasonings with just enough oil to hold it together.
Flavor-wise, Popeyes Signature Hot sauce was similar to a Nashville Hot seasoning blend. The spices melded together for an enjoyable savory base and were joined by a mild sweetness and a powerful kick of heat that built up as I ate.
The chicken was cut into thick pieces. The boneless wings were moist with a good meaty bite to them. Each piece was evenly covered with a crispy, flaky crust that kept its crunch even when covered with sauce. The flavor was neutral/plain but made the chicken ideal for dipping or saucing.
Overall, Popeyes Signature Hot Boneless Wings turned out really well. The breading/batter remained crispy and the sauce, which provided a bulk of the flavor, was tasty and very spicy.
