How To Make Baked Oats In The Air Fryer

I must admit this is my first foray into air fryer breakfasts. It definitely won’t be my last, but it was definitely a delicious place to start. Not only does the air fryer preheat and bake faster than the oven, it also creates a beautiful rise and golden muffin-top-like crust on top. But before we get to the baking, let’s focus on the batter.

Air Fryer Baked Oats Ingredients

  • Oats. The “flour” in our cake-for-breakfast equation, but we are not using any oats we are using Seven Sundays Maple Almond Protein Oats. You could use any of their three delicious varieties, but the Maple Almond has just the right amount of sweetness and pairs so perfectly with chocolate chips. And all three varieties deliver 10+ grams of protein from upcycled oat protein which I LOVE.
  • Banana. Just half a banana is the perfect sweet swap for the egg you will see in most baked oat recipes, keeping this version vegan but still so fluffy.
  • Almond milk. Or whatever non-dairy milk you prefer.
  • Almond butter. Peanut butter would be delicious too, or any nut/seed butter you like.
  • Baking powder, vanilla extract, and salt.
  • Chocolate chips. Minis are perfect to make sure you get many little chocolates morsels in every bite. They get so gooey in the air-fryer, it’s chocolate heaven.

How To Air Fry Oats

This is not a baked oatMEAL recipe, this is baked oats. Which means no oatmeal texture, instead we are blending the oats to a smooth batter consistency. A high speed blender works best here, and you want to let it go for a full 30+ seconds to make sure the texture is as smooth as possible. After blending the batter mixture will start to thicken as oats do (think: overnight oats), so I recommend pouring into the ramekins ASAP after blending so you don’t have to spatula the batter out of your blender later.

While you are blending, your air fryer should be preheating. Five minutes of preheat is plenty, but you do want it hot when the oats go in to get the best rise and thorough bake. I personally have a combination air fryer + instant pot, but this would work in a pull-out drawer style air fryer just as well. The oats will take 12-15 minutes depending on your air fryer, just look for a deep golden brown color on top and the middle should not feel soft or mushy if you lightly press it. The ramekin will be HOT, so carefully use tongs to remove your oats from the air fryer.

Air fryer Baked Oats FAQs

What if I don’t have an air fryer?

I haven’t tested this in the oven, but you can certainly try it. I’d try about 20-22 minutes at 350°F.

Can I meal prep this recipe?

The texture gets gummy and not good if you refrigerate/reheat, so I do not recommend it. You could prep all the ingredients in a container so you can jus toss it in the blender, blend, and bake in the morning.

Can I use regular rolled oatmeal?

You can, but you would need to add 1 tbsp coconut sugar to make up for the lack of sweetener and the protein content will be less (about 14g).

Can I replace the banana if I don’t like banana?

You could try applesauce or dairy-free yogurt instead, but I haven’t tested I personally.
