The heat of summer is still in full swing but school will be here before you know it. If you’re a parent, teacher, or student, the first day of school marks a new and exciting beginning. To set the tone for the upcoming academic year, we have six first day of school tips chock full of ideas to make it special.
First Day of School Celebration Tips for Teachers
Idea #1 Classroom scavenger hunt
One way to make students comfortable with their new classroom setting is with a scavenger hunt! Create a list of important parts of the classroom like where the garbage is, the bathroom pass, homework turn-in areas, etc. As the student finds each area, have them grab a specific colored sticker from that area and place it on their list! For an added surprise, when the students finds a particular place (where they keep their lunches for example), have a bunch of special, custom-imprinted Fun to Eat Fruit apples for each student. The edible imprint could say “Welcome to [insert grade here],” or your school’s name or mascot, for each student to take and enjoy!
Idea #2 Welcome bags
Another fun first day of school tip is to do an introductory activity that all students will love. We suggest giving each student a welcome bag. For instance, you could place some school essentials, like pencils, erasers, stickers, and handmade name placards into each bag. For an added bonus, place a piece of healthy fruit such as an apple or orange (with an edible Fun to Eat Fruit imprint on it!) for the student to enjoy at snacktime.
Idea #3 Time capsule
Time capsules are a great way to see how people mature and change over the school year! Have students fill out a questionnaire at the beginning of the school year outlining some of their favorite things and a goal they have for themselves. Place the questionnaires in a safe place. At the end of the year return them to the students. It is always fun to see how much students (and you!) grow in a year.
Idea #4 Student and Teacher Bios
As a way to introduce yourself to your students and your students to one another, fill out mini autobiographies, outlining your favorite color, your favorite activity, etc. Doing so allows for students to connect with their peers when they find similarities between themselves, and for students to learn more about their teachers!
First Day of School Tips for Parents to Celebrate
Idea #5 Pack an extra special lunch for your child
Remember the pure bliss when your mom or dad included a treat in your lunch? Make sure your child feels that joy on the first day with all their favorite treats! Looking for a way to make your child’s first day of school lunch a little more unique? Let Fun to Eat Fruit help make it happen! How? We imprint your special message or symbol on hard surface fruits like apples, oranges, and pears. The message is completely edible like what’s on M & Ms! Have a special message written on a piece of fruit for your child to really make their lunch memorable.
