1. Top Choice – Omega J8006 Nutrition Center Slow Masticating Juicer

Omega J8006HDS Nutrition Center Quiet Dual Stage Slow Speed Masticating Juicer

The Omega J8006 Nutrition centre seems to keep making its way to the top of my best juicer lists, it comes up again and again and do you know why? That’s right, because it’s that damn good!

It’s got a stylish stainless steel body which you know I’m going to love, a nice slow turning 80 rpm augur (the things that does the juicing) and the augur has been upgraded from the old model to be 8 times stronger. Which makes sense given that massive 15-year warranty, so while this is a little more expensive than some of the other juicers on this list but this one is built to last and gives you the most value over time.

I will say that the one drawback to this juicer is the feeding chute is quite small, you have to chop up your vegetables more so than you would with some of the other juicers here BUT like I said you want to do that anyway otherwise it will jam and you’ll find yourself spending time taking it apart and clearing it out to unjam it. Best do it once and do it properly I think.

It’s also got some multi-functionality because you can use it to make nut butters, nut milks, baby food, as well as making soy milk and frozen desserts. I like the little extra use you can get out of it so that extra value for money.

As for the juice that comes out it’s long-lasting because it’s cold-pressed and you get the maximum amount possible out of the products you put in. No need to run the pulp through twice or anything like that.

Overall, the high yield of juice, ease of use and 15-year warranty make this my favourite choice for the top masticating juicer.

2. Top Choice For Celery – Housnat Cold Press Masticating Juicer Machine

HOUSNAT Professional Celery Slow Masticating Juicer Extractor Easy to Clean, Cold Press Juicer with Quiet Motor and Reverse Function for Fruit & Vegetable

This is the more basic version of the Omega juicer above because in principle it does a lot of the same things for a lower price but the result is you have a plastic body, and a 2-year warranty. So although it’s half the price the long-term value might not be the same. But if you can’t afford to fork out for the Omega above then this is a good runner-up.

One of the biggest wins of this juicer is how dry the pulp comes out at the other end, you don’t want your pulp to feel very wet because it means it’s still got a load of juice in it, and while you can put the pulp through again it’s nice only having to do it once.

It also runs nice and quietly at 60 DB so you can run it without causing too much disturbance unlike trying to make a smoothie first thing in the morning where the blender sounds like it’s trying to tear the house down.

This was actually my first juicer and it worked great at pretty much anything I wanted from it, it handled celery easily and made top-notch green juices as well as small wellness shots.

A nice small masticating juicer that fits nicely on the countertop so you can leave it out and easily make fresh juice whenever you like.

Overall, a nice basic model of masticating juicer, exactly what you need if you’re just starting out or not sure about juicing.

3. Best Inexpensive Choice – Hamilton Beach Slow Juicer

Hamilton Beach Masticating Juicer Machine, Slow and Quiet Action, Cold Pressed Fruits & Vegetables

Another basic and budget model, Hamilton Beach have been producing budget yet quality goods for years ranging through every appliance around the kitchen, so you’ll be pleased to hear they’ve done it again with their masticating juicer.

Again it doesn’t have all the features the Omega has but it’s also a lot cheaper so you have to take the ups with the downs. It is nice and easy to assemble, all the parts fit together easily enough and you can take them apart, and they go into the dishwasher so it’s nice and easy to clean up after you’re done.

The great thing about this juicer is you can juice pretty much anything you want, it can handle soft foods like leafy greens and tough ingredients like carrot allowing for a fantastic range of juices to be made.

There’s a reverse function which is great when a piece of cucumber gets stuck in the auger, you just reverse it and it loosens up stopping it getting clogged. The pulp isn’t as dry as it is when you use either of the juicers above but for the price, it’s pretty damn good.

A nice easy to set up and cheap masticating juice extractor.

4. Best For Juice Cleanses – Tribest GSE-5000 Greenstar Elite Cold Press Complete Masticating Juicer

Tribest GSE 5000 Greenstar Elite Cold Press Complete Masticating Juicer

The Tribest juicers are amongst the best twin gear masticating juicers you can buy, twin gear juicers work by crushing your produce between two gears that rotate to crush every bit of juice out. The Tribest also uses magnetic technology to ensure that every last bit of nutrition is locked into the juice before it gets removed from the fruit.

this is the juicer people boast about, if you’re talking about juicers this one comes up because people know and respect it as one of the best juicers available. But it comes at a hefty price tag, for that though you get not just dual-stage but tri stage mastication giving you the healthiest juice around.

It isn’t exactly a high-speed juicer but it is slightly faster at 110 rpm but don’t worry this still has all the benefits of a slow juicer, centrifugal juicer start at around 6000 rpm after all!

Perhaps the best masticating juicer around, the only reason it isn’t higher is its costly price.

5. Top Luxury Choice – Hurom H-AA Elite Slow Juicer

Hurom HH Slow Juicer

The Hurom masticating juicer is another top of the range model, it’s got slow squeeze technology that means the motor only turns at 43 rpm while providing maximum juicing capabilities. This also means it runs nice and quiet so it won’t vibrate the house you down while you use it, you could even have it running while your family is still asleep!

It’s cleaning function is quite good, you can set how much pulp comes out the juicer and you fill it with water with that valve shut so it pushes all the pulp through and then you open up the cap and it all gets cleared out. But if you’re wanting a deeper clean you have to do the usual of taking it apart and getting the parts into the dishwasher.

The pulp comes out nice and dry which is good, you don’t need to put it through twice, and the yield from the actual fruit you put in is top-notch, loads of juice for the amount of fruit you’re putting in. Just be aware that the Slow Squeeze Technology, of course, means that it’s going to take a little longer to get the juice!

Hurom are one of the top brands of juicer out there making high-quality cold press juicers affordable but still on the expensive end. A great vertical juicer that will have you drinking delicious juice in no time.

Masticating vs Centrifugal

If you already know why you should want a masticating juicer over a centrifugal one then you can skip this section but if you don’t then keep reading.

What’s the Difference?

Masticating juicers have a slow spinning auger which grinds up the fruit and veggies that go into it, meanwhile centrifugal juicers have very fast-spinning blades more similar to a blender.

Centrifugal juicers work faster but they have the disadvantage that they tend to oxygenate and heat the juice because of the speed and friction of the blades which can kill some of the enzymes inside making it not as healthy. That also means that juice from a centrifugal juicer doesn’t last as long.

Masticating juicers, on the other hand, work slowly to squeeze out (masticating means chewing) all of the juice that’s inside the fruits and veggies. They work well with all fruits and vegetables but they work particularly well with leafy greens to get a lot more juice out than the centrifugal counterparts.

But they actually do more than that and work hard to get more juice yield out of any fruit or vegetable you could put inside it.

Can you tell I’m a big fan of masticating juicers?

What To Look Out For

So we’ve established masticating juicers are the best, but you know that right? That’s why you’re here to buy one of course! Now we need to take a quick look at some of the different factors to consider before you buy one.

Is it Easy to Clean

No one wants to spend all of their time cleaning up their juicer after they’ve used it, so when it comes to finding a juicer that’s easy to clean you want to have a minimal amount of parts involved. Because of the fewer parts involved, then the fewer parts that need to be cleaned after. Most masticating juicers have the same number of parts so clean up is pretty similar across the board.

Where the differences lie are in the fact that higher-quality juicers tend to assemble and disassemble easier which is what speeds up the cleaning process.

Low RPM

Masticating juicers will have nothing on their centrifugal counterparts in terms of rpm, with masticating juicers having around 80 rpm while centrifugal ones can have up to 15,000 rpm, which is just madness in comparison.

But for what we want around 80 rpm is a good benchmark, a little lower or a little faster is fine just anywhere around the 60-100 rpm mark is good. Some juicers go as low as 37 rpm for maximum cold juice extraction, if you’re a stickler for your health this makes a difference but for most people, any masticating slow juicer will do.

Material

I like stainless steel as the base for the main body, but BPA free plastic can work just as well, it’s just a personal preference of the look and feels an all-metal body gives. Plus it works towards using less plastic which is always a good thing in my mind.

But I know steel juicers tend to be more expensive so if you can’t afford them I get it, go for a plastic juicer like the Housnat, it’ll see you right.

Tips For Using Your Masticating Juicer

Now a couple of tips so you can make the most of your juicer when you get it because there are a couple of common pitfalls people do when they use it for the first time and it can be a pain to sort. For more on this, I’ve got a separate article one Juicing mistakes beginners make.

Chop Everything Up

I’m not talking about dicing things down like an onion you’re about to fry but roughly chopping down into small 2-3″ pieces before you feed into the chute. Why? Because this will stop it jamming, and it will jam if you don’t do this, trust me.

Even wide chute masticating juicers need the veggies chopped.

Juice Leafy Greens And Herbs First

They can get sort of trapped inside, they won’t jam it, but they sometimes don’t fully juice so if you put them in first they’ll get pushed through by whatever you’re adding after. Same goes for ginger, I tend to put the watery addition in last, so either cucumber, celery or sometimes apple, these just flush through the juicer making sure all the juice comes out.

Use Cucumber For Bulk

Cucumbers a great low sugar way to add some more liquid into your juice if it’s come out a little sparse, they’re nice and wet and still have some goodness inside. Pretty much every green juice needs a watery base so go with either cucumber or celery, I just suggested cucumber because it tastes better!

F.A.Q

Are masticating juicers better?

I think so, they produce more yield giving you more juice from the same amount of ingredients which cuts down on waste and the juice is higher quality having more nutrition and lasting longer than juice from centrifugal juicers.

The only place they fall short is that they are slow juicers, so they take longer to make juice. But I’m not in a hurry and treasure the meditative time I can take each day making my juice.

What vegetables shouldn’t be juiced?

You should never juice potatoes or raw elderberries, these will make you sick, no doubt about it, you will be sick so of course, you should never juice them.

Now broccoli, brussel sprouts, cauliflower all can be juiced but a lot of people can’t stomach them raw, they can lead to bloating and nausea. But weirdly not everyone experiences this and some people love juicing broccoli, but to me steamed broccoli with a little bit of salt is nice enough to fulfil my broccoli needs.

I’ve got more on the best vegetables to juice here.

Do you add water when juicing?

No need, you can add water if you want but it doesn’t achieve anything, it doesn’t help it juice easier and only dilutes the flavour once you’ve finished juicing.

The only exception is if you make a ginger and lemon shot and mix it into a big bottle of water it can be really tasty. It’s a great way to naturally flavour your water and help you stay hydrated.

Is blending better than juicing?

I don’t think either is better than the other they’re just different. Blending is good because the insoluble fibre is kept in which helps your stools form and keeps you feeling full.

Meanwhile, juice doesn’t have this so the nutrients absorb faster and you can drink it without feeling full and bloated afterwards while still getting all the nutrition.

But I don’t think one is particularly better than the other, I have a protein smoothie for breakfast but of course, love a fresh glass of juice.

What can you put in a masticating juicer?

You can juice pretty much anything in a masticating juicer, it handles soft fruits and vegetables, hard vegetables and everything in between! The only things that won’t work are avocados or bananas, they just smush through and don’t release any juice.

Other Masticating Juicers Reviewed

Kuvings Whole Slow Juicer

  • 3″ extra-wide feeding chute
  • 240-watt motor
  • High juice yield

Price & Reviews

What else do you want from a juicer except to get a large amount of juice out the other end? Wel the Kuvings is the way to get it, an excellent yield from a powerful motor allows for big glasses of nutritious juice.

I like the extra-wide feeding chute this juicer has, I wouldn’t go juicing things whole but it allows for a little less care to be taken when preparing ingredients, you can just give them a rough chop and send them through the juicer.

It also comes with two different cleaning brushes which make cleaning up that much easier and more thorough because you can get right in and about all the little crevices to get a complete clean up of the whole juicer after you’ve used it.

The best way to start enjoying top quality juice at home whether you’re juicing greens, wheatgrass or fruit.

SKG A10 Cold Press Slow Masticating Juicer Extractor

SKG A10 Cold Press Slow Masticating Juicer Extractor

This single auger vertical slow juicer works hard to get you all the nutrition you could want out of the produce you put in it. It’s got the same extra-large feed chute as the Kuvings above while being easy to assemble for fast clean up after you’re done.

I like that it’s got the reverse function for more efficient juicing and unclogging of anything that might get caught up in the auger while you’re juicing. The powerful motor works hard to ensure it keeps on juicing no matter what you put in it and the slow sleep leads to less oxidation allowing for healthy juices.

One of the more high-end juicers, it’s easy to use, easy to clean and one of the easiest ways to get stuck in with a masticating juicer.

Omega NC900HDC Juicer Extractor and Nutrition Center

Omega NC900HDC Juicer Extractor and Nutrition Center
  • 15-year warranty
  • Built-in handle for portability
  • Chrome finish

Price & Reviews

This is the step up from the Omega at the top of the list, one of the main differences is it comes with two different juicing screens, one allows almost zero pulp to escape as is standard on most juicers and the second allows some pulp through if that’s what you’re interested in.

It’s also got a larger feed chute which means slightly less time cleaning up.

I like this juicer but considering it’s only $100 under the Tribest above it doesn’t quite bring enough to the table, the Tribest produces a higher yield and this juicer is only a single gear.

Aicok Vertical Masticating Juicer

Aicok High nutrition Vertical Juicer

What’s quite cool about this juicer is the cleaning function it’s got in it. You just close the anti-drip cap on the juicing nozzle, fill it up with water and reverse the juicer to clean it. It’s not spotless after you do this but depending what you’re juicing this can be enough to clean it.

But the best thing is the price, it’s a lot more affordable than the top of the range models and can handle anything you want to juice, ginger can cause it to get a big clogger but if you just make sure you chop it up more (as you should be doing anyway) it’ll get on just fine.

You also get a 3-year warranty which is cool, just adds that little peace of mind to a solid product, that and the plastic it’s made with is BPA Free. The final thing to note is it’s quite tall at about 19.5” so it may not fit under some kitchen cupboards, for most people, it’ll be fine though.

Champion Commercial Grade Masticating Juicer

Champion Heavy Duty Masticating Juicer

This is one for the “serious juicer” and reading that should have made it clear whether you are one or not, if you quickly agreed and thought “Yes” then you my friend are a serious juicer and ready for the Champion.

It’s got a plastic body which is a little disappointing for the price, but it does feature a stainless steel shaft which is what drives the motor which more than makes up for it. That’s where all the power is needed so to have that packing the punch of metal is what we want.

Where this does struggle more is with delicate leafy greens like spinach and chard, you’ll likely need to put them through twice to get a thorough juicing. But clogging is a thing of the past because it won’t get stuck on Kale stalks which it can juice excellently, it won’t get stuck anything else for that matter, and the pulp comes out quickly on the other side of the motor and is dry pulp.

If you want to do a juice cleanse then this is the juicer for you, it can handle extremely large quantities of fruit and veg which allows you to batch make juice for the next 2 or 3 days.

A superbly high-quality juicer, if you’re going to juice a lot then this is the heavy-duty juicer for you.

Masticating Juicer Recipes

Here are three of my favourite recipes you can make in a masticating juicer.

Mean Green juice Recipe

Lastly, as promised, here is the Mean Green Juice recipe. If you’d like some more info on making green juice check out this article.

  • 1 cucumber
  • 4 celery stalks
  • 2 green apples
  • 8 kale leaves with stalks
  • 1 lemon
  • 1-inch piece of ginger

The absolute staple green juice, a perfect place to start and a great daily juice to have.

Spicy Start

  • 4 beetroot
  • 4 cups of spinach
  • 1 cucumber
  • 1 pear
  • 1-inch ginger

A bit different and one of the more interesting juices you can make. The beetroot is great for athletic performance so a good choice for a pre-workout or if you’ve got a busy day ahead.

Stomach Settler

Ingredients

  • 4 Carrots
  • 2 Big Apples
  • 1 Cup Of Red Cabbage

A nice red colour this juice will help to settle your stomach and is ideal at helping ease IBS

Conclusion

Well done if you made it this far! This is a very long article but I hope it was useful in helping you buy a masticating juicer. I hope you found the one you like and you’ve clicked through to Amazon to order it.

The Omega at the top or the Housnat are still my two favourites depending on your budget, if you can afford the Omega then definitely go for it but if you can only afford the Housnat it’s still a great juicer don’t worry.

If you still have questions then drop a comment below and I’ll get back to you there.
